Eating God with Combination: Partners, Ten-Stem Table and Transformation
Eating God (a traditional role associated with creativity, expression and enjoyment) with Combination involves an Eating God and the stem that combines with it. For Jia, Bing is Eating God and Xin is Bing’s combination partner. The relevant contact is Bing–Xin, not just any two combining stems elsewhere.
How do you find the Eating God and its partner?
First find the same-polarity (whether a symbol is classified as yin or yang) generated stem, then that stem’s Five Combination partner. The table derives all ten relations from those basics; the passage itself lists six reference stems: Jia, Ji, Yi, Geng, Bing and Xin.
The Siku transcription can confuse Ji and Si. The parallel Gujin Tushu Jicheng passage explicitly supplies Ji with Xin and Bing, so the Ji–Xin–Bing example has textual support.
| Day Master | Eating God | Its combination partner | Partner’s role for Day Master |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jia (甲) | Bing (丙) | Xin (辛) | Officer |
| Yi (乙) | Ding (丁) | Ren (壬) | Direct Resource |
| Bing (丙) | Wu (戊) | Gui (癸) | Officer |
| Ding (丁) | Ji (己) | Jia (甲) | Direct Resource |
| Wu (戊) | Geng (庚) | Yi (乙) | Officer |
| Ji (己) | Xin (辛) | Bing (丙) | Direct Resource |
| Geng (庚) | Ren (壬) | Ding (丁) | Officer |
| Xin (辛) | Gui (癸) | Wu (戊) | Direct Resource |
| Ren (壬) | Jia (甲) | Ji (己) | Officer |
| Gui (癸) | Yi (乙) | Geng (庚) | Direct Resource |
Why does the partner differ for Yang and Yin days?
For Jia, Bing is Eating God and Xin is Officer; for Yi, Ding is Eating God and Ren is Direct Resource. The partner is a different role and should not also be called Eating God.
Officer and Resource (the role family that supports the birth-day element, often interpreted through learning and support) are relationship identities, not immediate jobs or qualifications. A combination also does not automatically mean talent is blocked; its effect depends on placement, strength and competing contacts.
How are presence, combination and transformation separated?
Presence means both stems actually occur; combination identifies their formal relation; transformation additionally claims an effective phase direction and requires supporting conditions. One lookup cannot establish all three.
Bing–Xin has a Water-transformation convention, but Jia, Bing and Xin appearing together does not delete all Fire and Metal. Two Xin stems competing for one Bing also need explanation rather than two assumed complete transformations.
How can you tell whether a report explains it adequately?
Look for the Eating God, its partner, the partner’s role and the specific effect being claimed. A favorable label alone does not explain what happens to expression, Wealth (the role family controlled by the birth-day element, often interpreted through resources and practical demands) generation or Killings restraint.
Use the name to unpack a traditional relation, not to measure rank, income, creative ability or exam results.
