Mao/Wei Invoking Si: Four Days, Repeated Branches and a Two-Step Route
Mao/Wei Invoking Si has two routes: repeated Mao invokes opposite You, or repeated Wei invokes opposite Chou, then the Metal-trine relation is used to invoke Officer (the role family that controls the birth-day element, often interpreted through rules and demands) in Si. The text names four days and three or four matching branches, not a combined count of Mao plus Wei.
Which route belongs to each of the four days?
Xin invokes Bing Officer and Gui invokes Wu Officer in Si. The intermediate You/Chou and final Si targets are different positions; the theory does not mean the actual chart already has the complete Metal trine.

How are three or four matching branches counted?
Count the four natal branches, including the Day Branch (the lower symbol in the birth-day column). Three Mao plus another branch, or four Mao, reaches the Mao-route count; three or four Wei reaches the Wei count. Two Mao plus one Wei reaches neither.
The passage explicitly excludes one or two matching branches from this method. Do not add a timing year, alternate birth-time chart or invoked target to reach a natal count.
Why is this different from Goat Striking Pig and Snake?
This method reaches Si through You/Chou and asks for three or four Wei on its Wei route. Goat Striking Pig and Snake uses two or three Wei through Hai toward Si. Similar repeated branches do not make the thresholds or intermediate targets identical.
If Si is actual, it is no longer absent. With only one or two Wei, actual hidden stems (the additional element symbols traditionally assigned inside each lower chart symbol) and ordinary Wealth (the role family controlled by the birth-day element, often interpreted through resources and practical demands)/authority relations remain readable without adding a remote label.
What does the counting distinction help a reader do?
It helps you check whether a report follows its cited method or merely applies a name to repetition, and distinguish real positions from theoretical links.
The branch count is not an exam, status or wealth score. It is a condition within a traditional method, not a threshold for achievement.
