Po Guan: Three Source Routes, Officer versus Killings and Branch Breaking

Po Guan here is an old method of invoking authority through breaking relations, distinct from damage to an already present Officer (the role family that controls the birth-day element, often interpreted through rules and demands). Its three examples do not all invoke the strict Direct Officer (a traditional role associated with rules, responsibility and expectations): Ji is Killings for Gui, while Wu is Officer.

What target and Ten God does each example use?

Historical authority language can be broader than the polarity (whether a symbol is classified as yin or yang)-specific modern table. The source examples and the usual branch relations are therefore shown separately.

Gui-MaoWu-HorseJiKillingsMao–Wu Six Break
Gui-YouChenWu EarthOfficerYou–Chen Six Combination
Jia-WuYouXinOfficerWu–You is not a standard Six Break

Why cannot the standard Six Break table decide this pattern?

The passage places several kinds of branch contact under its breaking description and selects both Officer and Killings. It is a source-specific list, not an addition of You–Chen or Wu–You to the modern Six Break table.

If the target or the relevant Wealth (the role family controlled by the birth-day element, often interpreted through resources and practical demands), authority and Resource (the role family that supports the birth-day element, often interpreted through learning and support) is already present, explain the actual relations first. The same Officer should not be counted once as real and again as an extra invoked stem.

What does retaining the target mean?

The passage also asks for a branch from the target’s trine group. When invoking Xin in You, Si belongs to the Metal group; Jia’s Si hour is Ji-Si, and Bing hidden there can be discussed as Xin’s stem-combination partner.

Si also contains Wu, but Wu is not Xin’s Five Combination partner: Bing is. A shared palace and an actual combining stem are different facts.

Should the name cause concern about work or status?

The name predicts neither job loss nor promotion. The useful information is the target, its precise authority role and the specific contacts, not a career score.

A report should distinguish damage to an actual Officer from this implicit-authority method. One word, breaking, should not hide two different questions.
