Day Lu Returning to the Hour: Seven Routes, Full Hours and Source Examples
Day Lu Returning to the Hour first describes a placement: the Day Master’s Lu branch appears in the Hour Branch. Lu is a traditional life-stage position, not a guarantee of later-life income or rank. The source’s seven opening routes and seven broader interpretations need separate reading.
What are the complete hours for the seven routes?
The opening Jia/Yin, Ding/Wu and Wu/Si strings abbreviate a Day Stem (the upper symbol in the birth-day column) and its Lu branch. They are not all valid two-character Day Pillars. The complete hour must be calculated separately.
| Day Master | Lu in Hour Branch | Complete hour |
|---|---|---|
| Jia (甲) | Yin (寅) | Bing-Yin (丙寅) |
| Ding (丁) | Wu (午) | Bing-Wu (丙午) |
| Wu (戊) | Si (巳) | Ding-Si (丁巳) |
| Ji (己) | Wu (午) | Geng-Wu (庚午) |
| Geng (庚) | Shen (申) | Jia-Shen (甲申) |
| Ren (壬) | Hai (亥) | Xin-Hai (辛亥) |
| Gui (癸) | Zi (子) | Ren-Zi (壬子) |
Why are Yi, Bing and Xin discussed separately despite having Lu?
Yi’s Mao hour is Ji-Mao, exposing Indirect Wealth; Bing’s Si hour is Gui-Si, exposing Officer; Xin’s You hour is Ding-You, exposing Killings. All ten stems have Lu positions. The text redirects these three actual Hour-Stem relationships rather than denying their Lu placement.
Distinguish the broad placement from the narrower seven-route opening. A clear month-based Wealth (the role family controlled by the birth-day element, often interpreted through resources and practical demands) or Officer structure also deserves explanation first.
How do gathered, mutual and month Lu differ?
Returning Lu concerns the hour; gathered Lu concerns repetition; Jian Lu concerns the month; mutual Lu means each stem’s Lu is in the other pillar’s branch. These are different positions, not successively higher ranks.
Jia-Shen and Geng-Yin illustrate mutual Lu: Jia’s is Yin and Geng’s Shen. But Jia’s actual Yin hour is Bing-Yin, not Geng-Yin. The source gives that pair in a year/hour discussion, not as a mandatory day/hour pairing.
Why do Yi days, Bing days and Killings reappear in the examples?
The seven later interpretations are broader than the opening list. The following three charts have compatible calendar pairings, but do not all demonstrate an identical authority-free rule.
| Source pillars | Actual Lu placement | Separate interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Wu-Zi (戊子), Jia-Yin (甲寅), Yi-Hai (乙亥), Ji-Mao (己卯) | Yi’s Mao in hour | Yi appears in a later example despite exclusion from the opening seven |
| Bing-Shen (丙申), Bing-Shen (丙申), Bing-Shen (丙申), Gui-Si (癸巳) | Bing’s Si in hour | Exposed Gui Officer: Officer sitting at Lu |
| Jia-Shen (甲申), Bing-Yin (丙寅), Wu-Shen (戊申), Ding-Si (丁巳) | Wu’s Si in hour | Exposed Jia Killings: returning Lu with Killings |
What should a reader learn from the name?
Identify the reference stem and Lu position, then the Hour Stem’s Ten God (one of ten traditional relationship labels defined relative to the birth-day element) and the month’s main structure. Promises about later life or status do not explain returning Lu without those facts.
Clashes, control and repetition can change the traditional reading, but do not erase the actual hour or establish a year of job loss, income growth or a lifespan.
