Day Virtue: Five Day Pillars, Repetition and the Kui Gang Overlap

Day Virtue is a classical name for Jia-Yin, Bing-Chen, Wu-Chen, Geng-Chen and Ren-Xu days. Virtue is not a moral score. The passage distinguishes a single occurrence, read through the month’s ordinary structure, from repeated occurrences considered under the special account.

What is actually hidden under each of the five days?

The table returns the name to actual stems and branches. All five Day Stems are Yang, but not every Yang stem on Chen or Xu belongs to the list.

DayActual hidden roles
Jia-YinJia Peer, Bing Eating God, Wu Indirect Wealth
Bing-ChenWu Eating God, Yi Direct Resource, Gui Officer
Wu-ChenWu Peer, Yi Officer, Gui Direct Wealth
Geng-ChenWu Indirect Resource, Yi Direct Wealth, Gui Hurting Officer
Ren-XuWu Killings, Xin Direct Resource, Ding Direct Wealth

Does repetition count Chen/Xu branches or complete pillars?

First check the Day Pillar (the two-symbol column for the birth day), then compare full pillars with the five-pillar set. Do not merely add every Chen and Xu branch. Both source examples have compatible calendar pairings and three matches, composed of different pillars.

Source pillarsMatching positionsCount
Jia-Shen (甲申), Wu-Chen (戊辰), Wu-Chen (戊辰), Ren-Xu (壬戌)Wu-Chen month and day; Ren-Xu hour3
Geng-Chen (庚辰), Ji-Mao (己卯), Wu-Chen (戊辰), Jia-Yin (甲寅)Geng-Chen year, Wu-Chen day, Jia-Yin hour3

How do single and repeated occurrences differ?

These are two accounts in the passage, not proof that every Day Virtue chart rejects Wealth (the role family controlled by the birth-day element, often interpreted through resources and practical demands) and Officer. Geng-Chen actually contains Yi Direct Wealth; Wu-Chen contains Yi Officer and Gui Wealth. Those facts precede interpretation.

Geng-Chen is also in the Kui Gang list and is their only shared pillar. The overlap neither upgrades nor cancels the chart; compare the month and actual roles rather than add two measures of prestige.

Why is the name not used to judge character?

The compiler says the consulted auspicious-star list did not explain Day Virtue, and later describes a supposed example as uncharitable. The text supplies no reliable method for verifying morality from these five pillars.

Some warning verses also differ between Bing-Xu and Geng-Xu as the counterpart to Geng-Chen. The core list is retained without turning textual variation into a certain-disaster table. The useful content is the name, count and interpretive distinctions.
