Yin Borrowing Yang Life: Five Source Charts and Their Support Positions
Yin Borrowing Yang Life discusses support for the five Yin stems—Yi, Ding, Ji, Xin and Gui—through five example charts. It resists deciding everything from a slogan about Yang’s birth being Yin’s death. The support positions and reference frame matter; it does not require replacing every Yin stem’s stage table with a Yang sequence.
Where does the source locate help in the five charts?
These charts stay in year, month, day, hour order. The first four have compatible year/month and day/hour pairings. The fifth lists Gui-Si hour for a Gui-Mao day, whereas the hour sequence gives Ding-Si. It is retained as a source example with a disclosed conflict, not a verified birth chart.
| Account | Source pillars | Actual position and roles |
|---|---|---|
| Yi meeting Wu, with Hai | Jia-Shen (甲申), Geng-Wu (庚午), Yi-Hai (乙亥), Bing-Zi (丙子) | Hai Day Branch: Ren Direct Resource, Jia Rob Wealth |
| Ding-You, with Yin | Wu-Zi (戊子), Jia-Yin (甲寅), Ding-You (丁酉), Jia-Chen (甲辰) | Yin Month Branch: Jia Direct Resource, Bing Rob Wealth, Wu Hurting Officer |
| Ji-Mao, with Shen | Xin-Hai (辛亥), Geng-Zi (庚子), Ji-Mao (己卯), Ren-Shen (壬申) | Shen Hour Branch: Geng Hurting Officer, Ren Direct Wealth, Wu Rob Wealth |
| Xin meeting Zi; Ji or Si in differing texts | Ji-Si (己巳), Xin-Wei (辛未), Xin-Hai (辛亥), Wu-Zi (戊子) | Ji Year Stem is Indirect Resource; Si is also Year Branch |
| Gui-Mao, with Shen | Ren-Yin (壬寅), Wu-Shen (戊申), Gui-Mao (癸卯), Gui-Si (癸巳) | Shen Month Branch: Geng Direct Resource, Ren Rob Wealth, Wu Officer |
Does Yi meeting Wu mean an Yi-Wu day? What about Xin meeting Zi?
No. Yi-Wu and Xin-Zi are not valid sexagenary pillars: those Yin stems do not pair with those Yang branches in one pillar. The examples show an Yi-Hai day meeting a Wu month, and a Xin-Hai day meeting a Zi hour.
This matters in practice. A description of people born on an Yi-Wu day would describe a nonexistent Day Pillar (the two-symbol column for the birth day). Preserve the Day Master (the birth-day element used as the chart’s reference), encountered branch and its actual position.
Does the Xin account mean Ji Earth or the Si branch?
The parallel transcription specifies Ji, while the corresponding online Siku text reads Si. Ji is an Earth stem; Si is a Fire branch. They cannot be treated as one object.
The example contains both Ji as Year Stem and Si as Year Branch, so it alone cannot settle the reading. Under Ji, the relationship is Xin’s Indirect Resource. Under Si, the actual Bing/Wu/Geng hidden stems (the additional element symbols traditionally assigned inside each lower chart symbol) need their own explanation.
Do all five cases merely locate Direct Resource?
No. Ren in Hai for Yi, Jia in Yin for Ding, and Geng in Shen for Gui are Direct Resource. But Geng in Shen for Ji is Hurting Officer, not Resource (the role family that supports the birth-day element, often interpreted through learning and support). The source also discusses the broader structure and seasonal connection.
The useful result is locating each claim in the actual chart and retaining differences rather than forcing one formula. Historical rank or poverty statements do not become facts about a reader.
