Six Ren Shift: The Birth Chart, Two Hypothetical Exchanges and an Exception

Six Ren Shift treats stems affected by certain contacts as if they moved to other branches for a second interpretation. It is not a birth-pillar calculation or a method limited to Ren days. The actual pillars remain birth data; the shifted arrangement is a historical hypothesis.

What are the two source pairs before and after exchange?

Both original day/hour pairs are calculable, with Geng controlling Jia or Ren controlling Bing and a Zi–Wu clash. The exchanged column is the source’s interpretation, not a second birth.

Why are the shifted pairs not new birth charts?

Geng’s calculated Wu-Horse hour is Ren-Wu, not the hypothetical Jia-Wu; Bing’s is Jia-Wu, not the hypothetical Ren-Wu. Each separate pillar is valid, but the exchanged pairs do not fit a new day-based hour calculation.

They therefore represent an interpretive viewpoint rather than corrected birth information. Favorable-looking relations after a shift do not justify replacing the original Day Master (the birth-day element used as the chart’s reference), hour or hidden-stem (an additional element symbol traditionally assigned inside a lower chart symbol) record.

Why is Ding-You with Gui-Mao not exchanged?

The source explicitly leaves this pair unchanged because Ding in You and Gui in Mao each sit on Tian Yi. Gui-Mao is also a valid Mao hour for Ding. Stem control and branch opposition alone therefore do not compel an exchange.

In the separate full case Ji-Si, Gui-You, Ding-Mao, Gui-Mao, Ding actually sits on Mao, not You. Its discussion of Ji and Ding/Gui is another account, not the same placement as the stated exception.

What should be retained when reading this method?

Keep the original pillars, actual contacts, proposed relocation, local reference and explicit exceptions side by side. Other Geng-Wu and Gui-Hai examples do not supply a universal algorithm for every chart.

This helps identify whether a hypothesis has been presented as birth fact. Officer, Resource or Wealth after a shift does not verify real-world outcomes or mean that a clash changes a person’s identity or future.
