Fire–Earth Mixture: Generation, Obscured Fire and Three Source Charts
Fire–Earth Mixture is a historical image of Fire and Earth obscuring one another’s function. It is not ordinary Fire generating Earth, and it does not establish confused thinking or low ability. An explanation must identify Fire’s support, Earth’s role and the supposed obstruction.
Do the three source charts contain only Fire and Earth?
No. Other phases occur, and the count of Earth branches differs. All three have compatible calendar pairs. The Earth-branch count below includes only Chen, Xu, Chou and Wei, not hidden stems (the additional element symbols traditionally assigned inside each lower chart symbol) counted again.

What does Fire generating Earth mean for Bing versus Ji?
For Bing, Wu and Ji are Eating God and Hurting Officer: Output. For Ji, Bing and Ding are Direct and Indirect Resource: support. The third case’s Earth Day Master changes the roles.
The shared metaphor supplies no fixed Earth-character threshold. The first and third examples have only two Earth branches, so four Earth branches cannot be a universal requirement.
Does obscured Fire mean a Fire Day Master should always reject Earth?
No. Fire producing Earth can be ordinary Output, and Earth may then nourish Metal in another structure. An obscured-Fire reading needs season, Fire roots, Earth’s amount and moisture, and Wood’s possible roles.
The first example has Yi Wood and the third Yin Wood, yet both remain in the source list. One Wood character therefore does not automatically cancel every claimed obstruction either.
How should the source’s judgments about ability be read?
These are historical value judgments. Three examples do not establish intelligence, occupation or achievement, and the label should not be used to demean a reader.
Ask which relationship is supposedly obscured and what supports or weakens that interpretation. Translating abundant Fire/Earth into low intelligence does not explain the chart.
