Zi-Wu Double Enclosure: Three Layouts, Six Source Cases and the Actual Clash
Zi-Wu Double Enclosure describes three repeated-branch layouts: two Zi and two Wu-Horse, two Zi enclosing a Wu-Horse, or two Wu-Horse enclosing a Zi. Enclosure concerns positions, not merely the presence of Water and Fire. Imperial-seat imagery is a historical metaphor, not a status claim.
How do the six examples look in pillar order?
Every row stays in year, month, day, hour order rather than rearranging branches. All six have compatible calendar pairs; the remaining branch can be Shen, Wei, Chou or another branch shown in the example.
| Source pillars | Original branch order | Source category |
|---|---|---|
| Ren-Wu (壬午), Ren-Zi (壬子), Wu-Wu (戊午), Ren-Zi (壬子) | Wu (午), Zi (子), Wu (午), Zi (子) | Two Zi and two Wu |
| Ren-Zi (壬子), Gui-Chou (癸丑), Wu-Wu (戊午), Ren-Zi (壬子) | Zi (子), Chou (丑), Wu (午), Zi (子) | Two Zi enclosing Wu |
| Jia-Zi (甲子), Geng-Wu (庚午), Bing-Shen (丙申), Wu-Zi (戊子) | Zi (子), Wu (午), Shen (申), Zi (子) | Two Zi enclosing Wu |
| Wu-Zi (戊子), Wu-Wu (戊午), Ding-Wei (丁未), Geng-Zi (庚子) | Zi (子), Wu (午), Wei (未), Zi (子) | Two Zi enclosing Wu |
| Wu-Wu (戊午), Jia-Zi (甲子), Jia-Shen (甲申), Geng-Wu (庚午) | Wu (午), Zi (子), Shen (申), Wu (午) | Two Wu enclosing Zi |
| Jia-Wu (甲午), Ren-Shen (壬申), Jia-Zi (甲子), Geng-Wu (庚午) | Wu (午), Shen (申), Zi (子), Wu (午) | Two Wu enclosing Zi |
Must the three enclosing branches be adjacent?
The examples impose no uniform adjacency requirement. Zi-Chou-Wu-Zi has enclosing Zi in year/hour with Chou between; Wu-Shen-Zi-Wu likewise contains an intervening Shen. The text still calls them enclosure.
Counts alone do not establish the original order. Zi-Zi-Wu-Shen is not the same as Zi on both sides of Wu. Other arrangements need their own explanation, not a reordered chart.
Does the Water–Fire metaphor remove the Zi–Wu clash?
No. Zi and Wu remain a Six Clash. Zi hides Gui; Wu hides Ding and Ji, with different Ten God (one of ten traditional relationship labels defined relative to the birth-day element) roles for each Day Master (the birth-day element used as the chart’s reference). Water–Fire balance language does not replace those identities.
In the first Wu-Wu day example, Gui in Zi is Direct Wealth, Ding in Wu Direct Resource and Ji Rob Wealth, with exposed Ren Indirect Wealth elsewhere. Symmetrical branch counts do not prove equal seasonal strength or balanced phases.
How can this page help check an explanation?
Check the original branch order, identify the proposed layout, retain the actual clash and ask how the Day Master, month and other hidden stems (the additional element symbols traditionally assigned inside each lower chart symbol) participate. Two Water plus two Fire is not a complete explanation.
The name establishes no job, wealth, relationship outcome or accident. The six cases document layouts and terminology, not success rates or real-world validation.
