Gou Chen in Position: Seven Earth Days and Their Actual Relationships

Gou Chen in Position names seven Earth days: Wu-Yin, Wu-Chen, Wu-Zi, Wu-Shen, Ji-Mao, Ji-Hai and Ji-Wei. Gou Chen is the central Earth image; being in position concerns the conditions supporting Wealth (the role family controlled by the birth-day element, often interpreted through resources and practical demands) and authority. Each branch’s actual contents matter more than a single favorable description for all seven.

Why do Wu and Ji read the same Wood differently?

Wood controls Earth, but Jia is Wu’s Killings and Ji’s Officer (the role family that controls the birth-day element, often interpreted through rules and demands), while Yi is Wu’s Officer and Ji’s Killings. Water Wealth also divides by polarity (whether a symbol is classified as yin or yang).

Day PillarActual hidden roles
Wu-YinJia Killings, Bing Indirect Resource, Wu Peer
Wu-ChenWu Peer, Yi Officer, Gui Direct Wealth
Wu-ZiGui Direct Wealth
Wu-ShenGeng Eating God, Ren Indirect Wealth, Wu Peer
Ji-MaoYi Killings
Ji-HaiRen Direct Wealth, Jia Officer
Ji-WeiJi Peer, Ding Indirect Resource, Yi Killings

What do Wu-Zi, Ji-Mao and Ji-Hai each establish?

Wu-Zi establishes Direct Wealth, with no Wood authority or Fire Resource (the role family that supports the birth-day element, often interpreted through learning and support) in Zi. Ji-Mao contains Yi Killings alone, not Officer or Wealth. Ji-Hai actually contains Ren Wealth and Jia Officer together, allowing a Water-to-Wood Wealth–Officer discussion.

The questions differ: whether Wu can work with Water Wealth; how Wood and Earth interact in Ji-Mao; and how Wealth, Officer and Ji receive support in Ji-Hai. A generic all-three-roles phrase answers none of these.

Does being supported simply mean having more Earth?

The source pairs Day Master (the birth-day element used as the chart’s reference) support with timely Wealth or authority. Month and other pillars matter. Chen, Wei, Xu and Chou have different hidden stems (the additional element symbols traditionally assigned inside each lower chart symbol) and seasonal qualities; two Earth characters are not a strength calculation.

Its cautions about Output (the role family produced by the birth-day element, often interpreted through expression and activity), Rob Wealth (a traditional role associated with shared resources, cooperation and competition), punishment, clash or strong Killings require specific participants and effects. Ji-Mao already contains Killings, so the list itself does not support excluding every occurrence of Killings.

What can a reader use this name for?

It helps locate seven candidate days and ask where Wealth/authority come from, how Earth is supported and why this account is being used. It is a way into a classical structure, not evidence of wealth, rank or ability.

Central Earth and position explain the terminology. They do not prescribe a city-center home, industry or job. A chart reading needs the actual four pillars (the chart’s four birth-time columns: year, month, day and hour), while real decisions need real circumstances.
