Layered Resource and Authority: The Resource of Resource and Officer of Officer
Layered Resource (the role family that supports the birth-day element, often interpreted through learning and support) and Authority follows a relationship one step further. Jia receives Gui, then Gui receives Geng; Jia has Xin as Officer (the role family that controls the birth-day element, often interpreted through rules and demands), then Xin has Bing as Officer. The second reference is the middle stem, not Jia again. Two Xin stems relative to Jia are therefore not this layered rule.
What Ten God does each step represent in the two Jia examples?
The text uses sheltering for support and Officer for control. In modern Ten-God terms, these examples are Direct Resource’s Direct Resource and Officer’s Officer.
| Source chain | First step | Second step | Last stem relative to original Jia |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jia → Gui → Geng | Gui is Jia’s Direct Resource | Geng is Gui’s Direct Resource | Geng is Jia’s Killings, not another Resource |
| Jia → Xin → Bing | Xin is Jia’s Officer | Bing is Xin’s Officer | Bing is Jia’s Eating God, not another Officer |
What follows if both steps consistently use Direct Resource or Officer?
The source gives only Jia examples. This table derives two consecutive modern Ten-God relationships as an explanatory extension, not a source-printed universal classification or position rule. Read reference, middle stem and final stem in that order.
| Start | Direct Resource | Its Direct Resource | Officer | Its Officer |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jia | Gui | Geng | Xin | Bing |
| Yi | Ren | Xin | Geng | Ding |
| Bing | Yi | Ren | Gui | Wu |
| Ding | Jia | Gui | Ren | Ji |
| Wu | Ding | Jia | Yi | Geng |
| Ji | Bing | Yi | Jia | Xin |
| Geng | Ji | Bing | Ding | Ren |
| Xin | Wu | Ding | Bing | Gui |
| Ren | Xin | Wu | Ji | Jia |
| Gui | Geng | Ji | Wu | Yi |
Why does the source exclude Jia meeting two Xin stems?
Both Xin stems repeat only the first Jia-to-Xin step; neither provides Xin-to-Bing. Repetition count and relationship depth are different, and the source explicitly excludes that reading.
Likewise, two Gui stems do not automatically form Jia/Gui/Geng. A full explanation should identify each participating pillar and whether a stem is exposed or hidden; the short passage does not settle every position policy.
What does tracing these layers help a reader understand?
It explains why the same Geng is Killings relative to Jia but Direct Resource relative to Gui, and reveals when a reading changes reference without saying so.
The chain does not verify real patrons, managers or social connections, nor measure official rank. Make the reference changes explicit before discussing the historical interpretation.
