Heavenly Stems in a String: Successive Eating God Relations, Not Consecutive Numbers
Heavenly Stems in a String is also called Following Eating God in this passage. Each stem in year-to-hour order produces the next, with same-polarity Eating God relations in the example. It is not consecutive numbering such as Jia–Yi–Bing–Ding, nor four Eating Gods relative to the Day Master.
How do Ren, Jia, Bing and Wu form the chain?
Each step temporarily uses the preceding stem as its reference, unlike the ordinary Ten God (one of ten traditional relationship labels defined relative to the birth-day element) table that keeps the Day Master fixed.

Do the two Chen and two Xu contain only Eating God?
Wu, the Earth main stem of Chen/Xu, is Bing’s Eating God. Chen also contains Yi Resource and Gui Officer; Xu also contains Xin Wealth and Ding Rob Wealth. Broad Earth-as-Eating-God wording cannot erase them.
Chen and Xu remain a Six Clash despite the two-Chen-then-two-Xu order. The source’s emphasis on order and useful branches means the visible stem chain is not the entire interpretation.
Can I rearrange the stems to make a string?
No. The account uses the original pillar order; reversing it to Wu–Bing–Jia–Ren changes the direction. Jia–Yi–Bing–Ding is not an Eating God chain either: Jia and Yi are peers in phase.
The passage provides a principle and an example, not an exhaustive list of successful charts. The generating relations can be checked without turning the chain into a promise of income or achievement.
