Seasonal Strength: How the Season Supports Day and Hour Stems
Seasonal Strength describes agreement between the birth season and the Day/Hour stems. The source directly gives Jia/Yi Wood in spring and Bing/Ding Fire in summer. It helps explain seasonal support, but the season alone does not determine whole-chart strength or mean that more of the same element is always better.
How can seasons and stems be compared?
The table separates the passage’s explicit examples from a general seasonal extension. Autumn and winter provide five-phase context; they are not additional rows printed in this short rule.
| Season | Associated strength | Stems | Scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spring | Wood | Jia/Yi | Explicit source example |
| Summer | Fire | Bing/Ding | Explicit source example |
| Autumn | Metal | Geng/Xin | General seasonal extension |
| Winter | Water | Ren/Gui | General seasonal extension |
What do spring Wood and summer Fire look like in four positions?
These synthetic examples have compatible Year/Month and Day/Hour pairs. They identify the month, Day stem (the upper symbol in the birth-day column) and Hour stem (the upper symbol in the birth-hour column), not verified birthdays.
| Synthetic chart | Month | Day/Hour stems | Illustration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jia-Chen (甲辰), Bing-Yin (丙寅), Jia-Zi (甲子), Yi-Chou (乙丑) | Yin, spring | Jia / Yi | Two Wood stems with spring Wood |
| Ding-Mao (丁卯), Bing-Wu (丙午), Bing-Yin (丙寅), Ding-You (丁酉) | Wu, summer | Bing / Ding | Two Fire stems with summer Fire |
Are seasonal support, rooting and a strong Day Master the same?
Seasonal support asks about the month; rooting asks about supporting hidden stems; overall Day-Master strength also considers other support, control and expenditure. Spring Wood does not settle all three questions.
BaZi months follow solar-term (one of 24 seasonal markers defined by the Sun’s position along its yearly path) boundaries rather than calendar-month labels or local weather. Seasonal-end Earth months such as Chen and Wei also prevent treating every day of a season as identical.
Can the named Day and Hour stems be freely swapped or repeated?
The short text does not settle every ordering or repetition case. State the actual Day/Hour stems and whether the interpretation requires both named stems, allows repetition or follows another convention.
The second example still contains Mao/You clash. Seasonal support neither removes interactions nor establishes intelligence, health or authority. Its value is a clearly identified seasonal layer in the explanation.
