Five Elements Proper Seal: Nayin Storehouses versus Direct Resource
Proper Seal here means a Nayin element entering its own storehouse, not the Ten God Direct Resource. Jia-Zi has Metal Nayin; Yi-Chou also has Metal Nayin and sits at Metal’s Chou storehouse. This explains the seal without turning Jia-Zi into a Metal Day Master or Yi into Jia’s Resource.
Which complete pillar is the proper seal for each element?
The full mapping appears in volume 3; volume 6 illustrates two cases. The reference is the selected natal Nayin element, and the target is a complete pillar. Another Chou pillar need not have Metal Nayin.
| Reference Nayin | Seal pillar | Target Nayin | Storehouse |
|---|---|---|---|
| Metal | Yi-Chou (乙丑) | Sea Metal | Chou |
| Wood | Gui-Wei (癸未) | Willow Wood | Wei |
| Fire | Jia-Xu (甲戌) | Mountain-Top Fire | Xu |
| Water | Ren-Chen (壬辰) | Long-Flowing Water | Chen |
| Earth | Bing-Chen (丙辰) | Sand Earth | Chen |
How should the Jia-Zi and Bing-Yin examples be read?
Jia-Zi meeting Yi-Chou Hour illustrates Metal Nayin meeting its seal. If Jia-Zi is additionally assigned to the Day, that Day/Hour pairing is compatible, but it still does not establish a dated birth.
Bing-Yin meeting Jia-Xu Hour illustrates Fire Nayin and its seal. Do not silently assign Bing-Yin to the Day: a Bing Day’s Xu Hour is Wu-Xu, not Jia-Xu. A reference birth-year pillar (the two-symbol column for the birth year) and a Day pillar (the two-symbol column for the birth day) are different uses.
How does this differ from Direct Resource and Wu/Ji life stages?
Jia-Zi has a Wood stem, Water branch and Metal Nayin. For a Jia Day Master, Gui is Direct Resource and Yi Rob Wealth (a traditional role associated with shared resources, cooperation and competition). The Metal seal at Yi-Chou does not alter those Ten-God relations.
This Nayin account places Earth’s storehouse at Chen. That differs from individual Wu/Ji life-stage tables using polarity (whether a symbol is classified as yin or yang) direction and Earth following Fire. A Bing-Chen Nayin lookup cannot replace either stem’s Tomb lookup.
Does finding one seal pillar settle the whole interpretation?
The opening volume-6 route also asks for support and freedom from clash, break, Void and depleted stages. Its following multi-position storehouse account allows Void in some cases. That is a different configuration, not a universal cancellation of the opening conditions.
This distinction helps identify which seal, reference and storehouse rule a reading actually uses. Historical praise about rank or wealth remains interpretation, not a conclusion about your career.
