Five Elements in One Decade: Why Four Pillars Do Not Prove Five Positions
In this passage, Five Elements in One Decade requires Year, Month, Day, Hour and Fetus to belong to one ten-pillar decade. It is not simply five-element completeness, and four natal pillars in one decade do not complete the five-position condition. Begin with the positions despite the title’s elemental wording.
Which decade contains each of the four source pillars?
The parallel Gujin Tushu Jicheng text clearly lists Jia-Zi, Bing-Yin, Ji-Si and Geng-Wu. The Siku transcription reverses the characters of Ji-Si; this page follows the parallel reading rather than treating Si-Ji as a valid pillar. All four calendar-compatible pillars are in the Jia-Zi decade.

Why does this still not prove all five positions share a decade?
The fifth, fetal value is absent. Under the common month-stem (the upper symbol in the birth-month column)-plus-one and month-branch (the lower symbol in the birth-month column)-plus-three method, Bing-Yin produces Ding-Si Fetus, which belongs to the Jia-Yin decade instead.
This does not turn the example into a bad chart. It shows that four stated pillars do not prove five memberships and that the fetal convention matters. A different fetal value should not be silently supplied to make the table fit.
Is Five Fortunes Gather Auspiciousness another name for the same condition?
No. The second account uses the opposite distribution: each of Year, Month, Day, Hour and Fetus occupies a different decade. It also asks for support and freedom from disruption, but it cannot repair a failed same-decade condition.

Do life-stage support and combinations still need separate checks?
Yes. Decade membership does not create Six Combinations. The four source branches Zi/Yin/Si/Wu contain no ordinary Six Combination pair and do contain Zi/Wu clash. Support conditions therefore cannot be assumed from membership.
Separating the checks shows what evidence a reading has actually established. Decade distribution is traditional structural information, not a measurement of fortune or a substitute for judging real circumstances.
