Noble Purity Entering the Hall: Wu/You Correspondences and Invoked Branches
Noble Purity’s short verse pairs Yi/Ding/Xin with Wu and Ding/Xin/Gui with You. Horse and Rooster here name the zodiac branches Wu and You, not a separate Travelling Horse calculation. Its example also invokes missing intermediate branches for Officer (the role family that controls the birth-day element, often interpreted through rules and demands), Lu and Wealth (the role family controlled by the birth-day element, often interpreted through resources and practical demands), which must remain distinct from actual birth branches.
Which stems and branches do the two verse groups name?
Unlike the Brocade verse, this one does not explicitly assign every correspondence to Day stem (the upper symbol in the birth-day column) and Hour branch (the lower symbol in the birth-hour column). The table records the named groups without adding an Hour-only condition.
| Named stems | Zodiac word | Branch |
|---|---|---|
| Yi, Ding, Xin | Horse | Wu |
| Ding, Xin, Gui | Rooster | You |
Where do Gui and You appear in the source example?
The calendar-compatible example is Ji-You, Yi-Hai, Gui-Chou, Yi-Mao. Gui is the Day stem and You the Year branch (the lower symbol in the birth-year column); the Hour branch is Mao. Rewriting the rule as Gui Day requiring You Hour would exclude the very example given.
The actual branches are You, Hai, Chou and Mao. Each successive pair leaves one branch between them. The text invokes Xu, Zi and Yin from those gaps; it does not make them natal characters.
Why are invoked Xu, Zi and Yin associated with Officer, Lu and Wealth?
Using the example’s Gui Day reference gives the following correspondences. They remain invoked positions, not actual hidden-stem (an additional element symbol traditionally assigned inside a lower chart symbol) additions.
| Actual pair | Invoked middle | Relation to Gui Day |
|---|---|---|
| You / Hai | Xu | Xu contains Wu, Gui’s Officer |
| Hai / Chou | Zi | Gui’s Lu is Zi |
| Chou / Mao | Yin | Yin contains Bing, Gui’s Direct Wealth |
Is it accurate to call the whole Xu branch Officer or the whole Yin branch Wealth?
Not fully. Xu also contains Xin/Ding and Yin Jia/Wu. Officer and Wealth describe specific components relative to Gui, not pure whole-branch identities.
The source also calls this a hidden-combination Three Wonders arrangement. Its actual stems are Ji/Yi/Gui/Yi, so the invoked branches must not be rewritten as an actual Jia/Wu/Geng or Yi/Bing/Ding stem trio.
What gets missed if a reading discusses only the invocations?
You Year clashes with Mao Hour. Hai/Mao lacks Wei for a complete Wood trine. Actual Chou Day contains Ji, Gui and Xin: Killings, Peer (a traditional role associated with independence and relationships among equals) and Indirect Resource (a traditional role associated with specialized learning and unconventional insight) relative to Gui.
Keeping those actual relationships visible allows comparison with the invocation. Noble Purity does not establish status, character or career achievement; the name should not replace the explanation.
