Triple Convergence: Three Matching Positions versus a Branch Trine

Triple Convergence, also called Dragon–Phoenix Three Terraces, looks for three matching objects across specified positions. They may be stems, branches or Nayin (a separate named element classification for a complete pair of chart symbols) phases, counted separately. It is not the ordinary trine formed by three different branches such as Shen–Zi–Chen.

What are the three separate kinds of matching?

The source includes year, month, day, hour and fetal pillar. Specify that convention, then count within one layer; two exposed stems plus one Nayin label do not make three matches.

LayerSource exampleReading
StemsThree Ding / one Gui; three Ren / one Wu; three Geng / one BingThree matching stems and a different stem
BranchesThree Yin / one Shen; three Hai / one YinRepeated branches still have Horse, combination or clash relations
NayinJia-Zi, Yi-Chou, Ren-ShenThree Metal Nayin pillars, not identical stems or branches

How is the three-Metal Nayin example checked?

Jia-Zi and Yi-Chou are Sea Metal; Ren-Shen is Sword Metal. They share Metal while their named images differ. These three pillars are a partial example, not a complete chart with automatically assigned positions.

Why can three Yin and one Shen involve both Horse and clash?

The Yin–Wu–Xu group places Traveling Horse at Shen, while Yin/Shen is also a clash. Repetition does not cancel the clash or supply missing Wu/Xu. Three Hai with Yin involves Yin/Hai combination, with repetition still needing consideration.

The passage warns against excessive strength and distinguishes support such as Earth for Metal or Fire for Earth. Check support, season, roots and other participants instead of treating repetition as triple benefit.

Can transcription differences affect the reading?

The Siku transcription has three Ren and one Xu where the parallel text has Wu. The surrounding examples concern stems, so Wu is used here with the difference disclosed. Xu is a branch and cannot silently substitute for Wu Earth.

The useful result is a checkable account of repetition: one evidence layer, stated positions and retained interactions. It does not verify status, wealth or lifespan.
