Three Wonders: Yi–Bing–Ding, Jia–Wu–Geng and the Xin–Ren–Gui dispute

Three Wonders (San Qi Gui Ren, 三奇贵人) centers on three Heavenly Stems (the ten symbols used in the upper position of each chart column) appearing together. Yi–Bing–Ding and Jia–Wu–Geng are the main sets in the cited discussion; Xin–Ren–Gui appears with disputed naming. Sanming Tonghui preserves competing views, so the version is part of the answer.

The three stem sets do not have equal source status

Yi–Bing–Ding is called the Heavenly set and Jia–Wu–Geng is explained as the Earthly set. A Taiyi Jing attribution calls Xin–Ren–Gui the Human set, but the Sanming Tonghui author immediately questions its basis while accepting that three connected stems are rare; a later verse mentions Gui–Ren–Xin.

The table therefore preserves both the common label and the cited text’s position. Three tidy names should not conceal disagreement within the same discussion.

How can forward order be checked?

This guide uses one reproducible strict comparison: scan Year, Month, Day and Hour for Yi–Bing–Ding or Jia–Wu–Geng in three adjacent positions and forward order. The source favors forward sequence, yet also cites Guang Lu treating an Yi-hour, Bing-day, Ding-year arrangement as favorable, apparently without the same direction rule.

Strict adjacent forward order is therefore this guide’s comparison convention, not the only historical standard. Xin–Ren–Gui adds disputes about both its name and direction, making disclosure essential.

How do forward, reversed and interrupted examples differ?

Using stem fragments only: Year Yi, Month Bing, Day Ding, Hour Gui gives an adjacent forward sequence. Year Ding, Month Bing, Day Yi, Hour Gui contains all three in reverse. Year Yi, Month Ren, Day Bing, Hour Ding preserves Bing–Ding together but separates Yi.

The third fragment can change under a non-adjacent ordered version. It is not a complete birth chart and predicts nothing about a person; the example exposes the rule difference.

Three stems are not proof of talent

The source associates the set with distinction and learning, then adds timing, placement, Nobleman and Three Harmony conditions. Finding three stems cannot establish all the praise that follows.

Actual learning, creativity and leadership are demonstrated through work, knowledge, judgment and collaboration. Clarify does not calculate Three Wonders or score a person’s ability from it.
