Heaven–Earth Virtue Union: Checking Both Stem and Branch in the Same Pair

Heaven–Earth Virtue Union means that the stems of the same two pillars form a Five Stem Combination and their branches form a Six Combination. Jia-Zi with Ji-Chou is one example. The term describes structure between pillars, not moral character, completed transformation or whether two people are compatible.

Which two conditions must the same pillar pair meet?

Select the same two complete pillars, then check their stem and branch combinations separately. A year/month stem (the upper symbol in the birth-month column) pair cannot be combined with unrelated day/hour branches to manufacture this structure.

Jia-Zi/Ji-Chou combines Jia–Ji and Zi–Chou; Wu-Xu/Gui-Mao combines Wu–Gui and Xu–Mao. These source pairs illustrate relations, not compatibility with every possible calendar position.

Which complete sexagenary pillars form these pairs?

These thirty pairs are derived from the two combination definitions. Read either direction: every sexagenary pillar appears once. This is a lookup aid, not thirty separately listed source patterns.

Which pillars combine in the two source charts?

Both source charts combine day and hour at both levels and pass calendar-pair checks. This does not independently verify the historical birth dates.

Source chartParticipating pillarsTwo checks
Yi-Mao (乙卯), Ding-Hai (丁亥), Wu-Yin (戊寅), Gui-Hai (癸亥)Wu-Yin day / Gui-Hai hourWu–Gui stems; Yin–Hai branches
Xin-Wei (辛未), Ding-You (丁酉), Ji-Mao (己卯), Jia-Xu (甲戌)Ji-Mao day / Jia-Xu hourJi–Jia stems; Mao–Xu branches

What still matters after finding a pair?

A structural pair does not ensure compatibility with a specified position. The Chou hour of a Jia-Zi day is Yi-Chou, not Ji-Chou; the Mao hour of a Wu-Xu day is Yi-Mao, not Gui-Mao. Obtain actual birth pillars from calendar rules before using the lookup.

In the second chart, Month You clashes with Day Mao while Day Mao combines with Hour Xu. Both remain present. The source’s preference for hour or adjacent combinations is a methodological preference, not a rule that more combinations are always better.

How does this differ from Ruler–Minister Assembly?

Ruler–Minister Assembly adds membership in the same ten-pillar decade. Jia-Xu/Ji-Mao share the Jia-Xu decade; Wu-Chen/Gui-You share Jia-Zi. Jia-Zi/Ji-Chou belong to Jia-Zi and Jia-Shen respectively.

Thus Jia-Zi/Ji-Chou illustrates Heaven–Earth Union without meeting the extra same-decade condition. Identify the shared structure, then the added requirement, rather than treating similar names as accumulating benefits.

What does identifying this union actually tell me?

You can name the two pillars, their stems and their branches, then examine Day Master (the birth-day element used as the chart’s reference) roles, season and other interactions. That is a structural description with visible evidence.

It does not establish career, relationship, financial or lifespan outcomes. Virtue belongs to historical terminology, not a test of character or a label for a real partner.
