Ruler–Minister Assembly: Double Combination within the Same Decade

Ruler–Minister Assembly adds one condition to a double stem/branch combination: the same two pillars must lie in one ten-pillar decade of the sexagenary cycle (the repeating sequence of sixty paired calendar symbols). This makes it narrower than Heaven–Earth Union. Ruler and minister are historical metaphors, not assessments of loyalty, rank or relationships.

Which pairs meet both combination and same-decade tests?

The two combination tables and the cycle yield these six distinct pairs. They are reversible lookups, with actual positions checked separately; this complete table is derived rather than enumerated in the passage.

Jia-ZiWu-Chen (戊辰), Gui-You (癸酉)
Jia-XuJia-Xu (甲戌), Ji-Mao (己卯)

Why is Jia-Zi / Ji-Chou absent even though both levels combine?

Jia-Zi belongs to the Jia-Zi decade and Ji-Chou to Jia-Shen. Their stems and branches combine, but the decades differ. They illustrate the broader union, not this strict definition.

Volume 2 additionally discusses Yang above Yin, while volume 6 favors hour involvement and nearby positions. State the chosen positional convention separately instead of treating a lookup match as every condition satisfied.

Do all four appended source charts satisfy the same-decade condition?

All four pass calendar-pair checks, but only the third chart’s year/month pair meets the opening same-decade definition. The others contain double combinations across different decades. The appended examples are broader than the definition; that difference remains visible.

How should the attached verse and actual chart be read together?

The verse includes cross-decade pairs such as Ji-Si/Jia-Shen and Geng-Chen/Yi-You, so it is not a strict same-decade list. Writing the full pillars and checking each condition reveals whether a broad or narrow meaning is in use.

Even when all three structural tests pass, other interactions, season and roots remain. This entry helps verify terminology and evidence, not career rank, wealth or trustworthiness.
