Auspicious and Inauspicious Confluences: Invoked Branches versus Timing Convergence
Auspicious and Inauspicious Confluences has two layers in the source: invoking a third branch from two branches, then a broader convergence of natal relationships with timing cycles. Favorable or unfavorable depends on a relationship’s role in context, not an eternally good/bad Ten God (one of ten traditional relationship labels defined relative to the birth-day element) or an absent branch becoming natal data.
What are five explicitly stated invocation routes?
The same Zi/Chen invocation of Shen gives Geng Killings for Jia and Geng Officer (the role family that controls the birth-day element, often interpreted through rules and demands) for Yi. The Day Master (the birth-day element used as the chart’s reference) changes the role.

How does the account continue after invoking Killings?
The Jia route examines Bing controlling Geng, Yi combining with Geng, or Water Resource (the role family that supports the birth-day element, often interpreted through learning and support) support. The Bing route discusses Wu controlling Ren and Ding–Ren combination. Supporting participants need actual presence and effect; they cannot all be invented along with the invoked target.
Another clause reads Jia encountering Ji-Chou and invoking You/Xin in both consulted online texts. Reading this as Si/Chou leading to You is an interpretive correction that must be disclosed, not a silent substitution of a branch for a stem.
How does an actual Shen differ from having only Zi and Chen?
With only Zi and Chen, Shen is an interpretive target; its Geng/Ren/Wu are not actual hidden stems (the additional element symbols traditionally assigned inside each lower chart symbol). Natal Shen or a later Shen year instead creates an actual natal or timing participant, which should be labeled separately.
Even three members do not automatically establish transformation or a real event. Day Master, season, placement and modifying relationships remain relevant.
Does broader timing convergence mean more markers make a prediction certain?
The broader use asks whether relationships already needed or problematic in the chart converge with a major cycle and year. Identify the natal participant, cycle pillar, annual pillar and dates instead of adding marker counts into an omen score.
The useful distinction is invocation, actual arrival and interpretation. Multiple names do not verify the passage’s historical promotion, loss or disaster claims.
