Winter Meets Fire: The Solstice Window and Each Day Master’s Roles
Winter Meets Fire discusses the use of Fire in a narrow period after the winter solstice, repeatedly described as ten days in the source. Fire is a traditional image of emerging Yang within cold, not a claim that the weather is already warm. Check timing first, then whether Fire is Output, Wealth, authority or Resource for the Day Master.
Does this mean everyone born in winter benefits from Fire?
No. The text limits its account to after the solstice and distinguishes Chou month. The Hong Kong Observatory lists December 22 for the 2026 winter solstice; that is a date in Hong Kong, not a fixed boundary for every year and timezone.
Use the relevant year’s instant, birth timezone and counting convention. A cold month or a Fire character does not establish the window.
Which role does Fire have for each route?
The Yi route concerns a Wood–Fire account. Fire has different roles for Metal, Water and Earth, and the Earth account separately discusses Wood authority.
| Day Master | Bing role | Ding role | Additional source condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yi | Hurting Officer | Eating God | A Hai/Mao/Wei Day Branch is not automatically the complete group |
| Geng | Killings | Officer | Yin as Fire source; a separate Geng-Wu-day route |
| Xin | Officer | Killings | Yin as Fire source; a separate Xin-Si-day route |
| Ren | Indirect Wealth | Direct Wealth | Supported Fire Wealth |
| Gui | Direct Wealth | Indirect Wealth | Supported Fire Wealth |
| Wu | Indirect Resource | Direct Resource | Separate Jia Killings / Yi Officer route |
| Ji | Direct Resource | Indirect Resource | Separate Jia Officer / Yi Killings route |
How do the three source charts show different routes?
All three have compatible calendar pairs, but their elapsed days from the solstice are not verified here. Zi month alone does not establish the ten-day window.
| Source pillars | Actual relationships | Distinction to retain |
|---|---|---|
| Ding-Wei (丁未), Ren-Zi (壬子), Yi-Wei (乙未), Bing-Zi (丙子) | Yi: Ding Eating God, Ren Resource, Bing Hurting Officer | Ren Water is exposed; source invokes Ding–Ren Wood transformation |
| Geng-Wu (庚午), Wu-Zi (戊子), Geng-Yin (庚寅), Wu-Yin (戊寅) | Bing Killings in Yin; Gui Hurting Officer in Zi | The source uses controlled Killings, not Bing as Geng’s Officer |
| Ren-Chen (壬辰), Ren-Zi (壬子), Geng-Wu (庚午), Wu-Yin (戊寅) | Ding Officer and Ji Resource in Wu; Ren Eating God | Chen/Zi lack Shen, Yin/Wu lack Xu; actual Zi–Wu clash |
How can this be read without turning favorable Fire into a prescription?
Identify the Day Master, Fire stem and support, then examine Water control and actual interactions. The examples contain Ren Water, Killings and a Zi–Wu clash, so Water-bad/Fire-good is not an adequate summary.
Fire here is a chart relationship, not a reason to alter body temperature, treatment or investments. The account explains seasonal conditions, not established wealth, rank, health or lifespan outcomes.
