Monthly Virtue Noble: four-group table and a Yin-month example
Monthly Virtue Noble (Yue De, 月德) groups the birth Month Branch (the lower symbol in the birth-month column) into four families, each with one Yang-stem target. Its traditional imagery concerns warmth and moderation. A useful reading begins with the actual target and its location.
Use the month to select a row, then check the visible stems
A Yin Month Branch selects the first row even without Wu or Xu elsewhere. The trine group is a lookup key, not proof that the chart has formed a Fire combination.
This guide searches the visible pillar stems. Hidden Jia in Wei, with no visible Jia, does not satisfy its Wood-group lookup. A source that includes hidden stems (the additional element symbols traditionally assigned inside each lower chart symbol) needs a separate scope.

What if a Yin month has Xin but no Bing?
A Yin month targets Bing. With Bing at the Year Stem (the upper symbol in the birth-year column) and Jia at the day, the location is the year. Replace that Bing with Xin and leave no other visible Bing, and the Monthly Virtue stem match disappears.
Xin is the combining-marker target for this group, not Monthly Virtue itself. The two names search for different stems; finding one neither establishes both nor creates a Bing–Xin combination.
Origin and value when reading a report
Volume 5 of Xie Ji Bian Fang Shu explains the targets through the Yang stems of the four trine elements: Bing Fire, Ren Water, Jia Wood and Geng Metal. Earth does not supply a fifth trine row.
Monthly Virtue helps explain a traditional name and method. Any discussion of support still depends on how that stem relates to the Day Master (the birth-day element used as the chart’s reference) and the rest of the chart. Clarify does not currently calculate this marker.
