Jia-Yin Xun Void: Zi and Chou (子丑) — Ten Jiazi and Examples

The Jia-Yin xun contains ten Jiazi from 甲寅 through 癸亥. Its Void pair is Zi and Chou (子丑). The ten stems are exhausted without assigning one to 子 or 丑, so every complete Day Pillar (the two-symbol column for the birth day) in this xun returns those two branches.

Which ten Jiazi belong to the Jia-Yin xun?

The table advances one stem and one branch at a time until 癸亥. Find the complete reference Day Pillar here before reading 子丑 Void. A lone 甲 stem or 寅 branch does not establish membership in this xun.

PositionComplete JiaziStemBranch
1甲寅甲寅
2乙卯乙卯
3丙辰丙辰
4丁巳丁巳
5戊午戊午
6己未己未
7庚申庚申
8辛酉辛酉
9壬戌壬戌
10癸亥癸亥

Why are Zi and Chou the omitted pair?

The Jia-Yin xun uses these ten branches: 寅, 卯, 辰, 巳, 午, 未, 申, 酉, 戌, 亥. Removing them from the twelve-branch set leaves only 子 and 丑. They are unassigned inside this block, not deleted from an actual chart.

Xun on this page means ten Jiazi pairs; when applied to days it is a ten-day block. It is not a ten-year Luck Pillar (a pair of symbols used to interpret a roughly ten-year period). Jia-Yin xun Void cannot be read as an empty decade ahead.

Example: how does Day 丙辰 test 子丑 Void?

丙辰 is the third member of this xun. Record “Day 丙辰 → Jia-Yin xun → 子丑 Void,” then inspect actual Year, Month and Hour Branches. 子 matches, 丑 matches, and 寅 is not part of this Void pair.

If the reference changes to 甲子, use the Jia-Zi xun instead; its pair is 戌亥. Do not retain 子丑 and append the new pair as one combined result.

What remains when Zi and Chou are marked Void?

That inference is unsupported. 子 Water, 丑 Earth and their hidden stems (the additional element symbols traditionally assigned inside each lower chart symbol) remain calculable. Family, housing, finances and health require real data; a Void label is not factual evidence. If 子 or 丑 actually appears in the chart, retain its pillar position and direct relations beside the Void label.

Does 子丑 Void reveal a problem with resources, family or health?

That inference is unsupported. 子 Water, 丑 Earth and their hidden stems remain calculable. Family, housing, finances and health require real data; a Void label is not factual evidence. The Jia-Yin calculation establishes only the relative 子丑 pair. It diagnoses no health condition, predicts no lifespan, erases no relative and guarantees no wealth result.

Filling, clash and combination can be checked under a named school, but they do not alter membership in 甲寅 through 癸亥. Every temporary relation needs its position and duration rather than a permanent-release claim.
