BAZI KNOWLEDGE BASE
Jia-Xu Xun Void: Shen and You (申酉) — Ten Jiazi and Examples
The Jia-Xu xun contains ten Jiazi from 甲戌 through 癸未. Its Void pair is Shen and You (申酉). The ten stems are exhausted without assigning one to 申 or 酉, so every complete Day Pillar (the two-symbol column for the birth day) in this xun returns those two branches.
Which ten Jiazi belong to the Jia-Xu xun?
The table advances one stem and one branch at a time until 癸未. Find the complete reference Day Pillar here before reading 申酉 Void. A lone 甲 stem or 戌 branch does not establish membership in this xun.
| Position | Complete Jiazi | Stem | Branch |
|---|---|---|---|
Why are Shen and You the omitted pair?
The Jia-Xu xun uses these ten branches: 戌, 亥, 子, 丑, 寅, 卯, 辰, 巳, 午, 未. Removing them from the twelve-branch set leaves only 申 and 酉. They are unassigned inside this block, not deleted from an actual chart.
Xun on this page means ten Jiazi pairs; when applied to days it is a ten-day block. It is not a ten-year Luck Pillar (a pair of symbols used to interpret a roughly ten-year period). Jia-Xu xun Void cannot be read as an empty decade ahead.
Example: how does Day 丙子 test 申酉 Void?
丙子 is the third member of this xun. Record “Day 丙子 → Jia-Xu xun → 申酉 Void,” then inspect actual Year, Month and Hour Branches. 申 matches, 酉 matches, and 戌 is not part of this Void pair.
If the reference changes to 甲申, use the Jia-Shen xun instead; its pair is 午未. Do not retain 申酉 and append the new pair as one combined result.
| Reference Jiazi | Tested branch | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 丙子 | 申 | 申 matches |
| 丙子 | 酉 | 酉 matches |
| 丙子 | 戌 | No match |
| 甲申 | 午 未 | Different xun: Jia-Shen |
What remains when Shen and You are marked Void?
No. 申 and 酉 remain Metal branches, with 庚壬戊 hidden in 申 and 辛 in 酉. Their actual presence cannot be removed from phase, root or Ten-God analysis because of Void. If 申 or 酉 actually appears in the chart, retain its pillar position and direct relations beside the Void label.
| Void branch | Ordinary phase | Common hidden stems | Handling |
|---|---|---|---|
| 申 | Metal | 庚 壬 戊 | Retain phase, hidden stems, roots and contacts |
| 酉 | Metal | 辛 | Retain phase, hidden stems, roots and contacts |
Does 申酉 Void mean the chart has no Metal?
No. 申 and 酉 remain Metal branches, with 庚壬戊 hidden in 申 and 辛 in 酉. Their actual presence cannot be removed from phase, root or Ten-God analysis because of Void. The Jia-Xu calculation establishes only the relative 申酉 pair. It diagnoses no health condition, predicts no lifespan, erases no relative and guarantees no wealth result.
Filling, clash and combination can be checked under a named school, but they do not alter membership in 甲戌 through 癸未. Every temporary relation needs its position and duration rather than a permanent-release claim.
