BAZI KNOWLEDGE BASE
Jia-Wu Xun Void: Chen and Si (辰巳) — Ten Jiazi and Examples
The Jia-Wu xun contains ten Jiazi from 甲午 through 癸卯. Its Void pair is Chen and Si (辰巳). The ten stems are exhausted without assigning one to 辰 or 巳, so every complete Day Pillar (the two-symbol column for the birth day) in this xun returns those two branches.
Which ten Jiazi belong to the Jia-Wu xun?
The table advances one stem and one branch at a time until 癸卯. Find the complete reference Day Pillar here before reading 辰巳 Void. A lone 甲 stem or 午 branch does not establish membership in this xun.
| Position | Complete Jiazi | Stem | Branch |
|---|---|---|---|
Why are Chen and Si the omitted pair?
The Jia-Wu xun uses these ten branches: 午, 未, 申, 酉, 戌, 亥, 子, 丑, 寅, 卯. Removing them from the twelve-branch set leaves only 辰 and 巳. They are unassigned inside this block, not deleted from an actual chart.
Xun on this page means ten Jiazi pairs; when applied to days it is a ten-day block. It is not a ten-year Luck Pillar (a pair of symbols used to interpret a roughly ten-year period). Jia-Wu xun Void cannot be read as an empty decade ahead.
Example: how does Day 丙申 test 辰巳 Void?
丙申 is the third member of this xun. Record “Day 丙申 → Jia-Wu xun → 辰巳 Void,” then inspect actual Year, Month and Hour Branches. 辰 matches, 巳 matches, and 午 is not part of this Void pair.
If the reference changes to 甲辰, use the Jia-Chen xun instead; its pair is 寅卯. Do not retain 辰巳 and append the new pair as one combined result.
| Reference Jiazi | Tested branch | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 丙申 | 辰 | 辰 matches |
| 丙申 | 巳 | 巳 matches |
| 丙申 | 午 | No match |
| 甲辰 | 寅 卯 | Different xun: Jia-Chen |
What remains when Chen and Si are marked Void?
Not automatically. 辰 Earth with 戊乙癸 and 巳 Fire with 丙戊庚 remain present. Roots, transformation and clashes need their own rule checks. If 辰 or 巳 actually appears in the chart, retain its pillar position and direct relations beside the Void label.
| Void branch | Ordinary phase | Common hidden stems | Handling |
|---|---|---|---|
| 辰 | Earth | 戊 乙 癸 | Retain phase, hidden stems, roots and contacts |
| 巳 | Fire | 丙 戊 庚 | Retain phase, hidden stems, roots and contacts |
Does 辰巳 Void invalidate storehouses, hidden stems or contacts?
Not automatically. 辰 Earth with 戊乙癸 and 巳 Fire with 丙戊庚 remain present. Roots, transformation and clashes need their own rule checks. The Jia-Wu calculation establishes only the relative 辰巳 pair. It diagnoses no health condition, predicts no lifespan, erases no relative and guarantees no wealth result.
Filling, clash and combination can be checked under a named school, but they do not alter membership in 甲午 through 癸卯. Every temporary relation needs its position and duration rather than a permanent-release claim.
