BAZI KNOWLEDGE BASE
What Does Tomb (墓, Mu) Mean in the Twelve Life Stages?
Tomb is stage 9, after Death and before Extinction. It describes completed qi being stored, which also produces the classical storehouse image. It is a lookup between a reference stem and target branch, not a permanent judgment about a person.
What does Tomb establish first?
Tomb stage, Branch storehouses and Wealth (the role family controlled by the birth-day element, often interpreted through resources and practical demands)-Vault rules are related but separate checks. A Tomb result does not automatically mean hidden money. Under the forward-Yang, reverse-Yin table used here, a reproducible result names both the reference stem and target branch. The word Tomb by itself identifies neither the pillar nor the stem used.
It occupies position 9: the sequence moves from Death into Tomb and next into Extinction. That order explains the source metaphor; it is not a twelve-part biography.
At which branch does each stem reach Tomb?
Choose the reference stem before reading its target branch. The ten complete results are 甲未, 乙戌, 丙戌, 丁丑, 戊戌, 己丑, 庚丑, 辛辰, 壬辰, 癸未. Yang and Yin stems move in opposite directions, so the same branch can hold different stages for different stems.
| Reference stem | Tomb branch | Complete lookup pair |
|---|---|---|
Example: 甲未 is Tomb; what does Yi do at the same branch?
Using 甲 as reference and 未 as target returns Tomb. In a Star Fortune row, record “Day Stem 甲 → branch 未 = Tomb.” If 甲未 is itself one pillar and the display checks self-sitting, it returns the same name through a different output layer.
Change the reference to 乙 while keeping branch 未; the result becomes Nurture, not Tomb. The branch therefore has no permanent Life-Stage name. A different reference can change the answer.
| Reference | Same target | Result | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| 甲 | 未 | Tomb | Forward Jia-Wood sequence |
| 乙 | 未 | Nurture | Yi Wood begins Birth at 午 and runs in reverse |
How should Tomb enter a whole-chart reading?
First identify whether the display is Star Fortune, which checks the Day Stem against four branches, or self-sitting, which checks each pillar stem against its own branch. Tomb describes only that reference pair. Month Command, roots, hidden stems, Ten Gods, contacts and the pillar relevant to the question still require separate analysis.
No. First identify the Life-Stage result, then separately examine hidden stems, the stored phase, opening conditions and direct contacts. Property, inheritance, legal or medical questions cannot be decided by Tomb. A reader can use Tomb as supplementary language for where one relation sits in the cycle, never as an independent fortune score.
Which misunderstanding matters most for Tomb?
Does Tomb mean a wealth vault, burial, prison or blocked action? No. First identify the Life-Stage result, then separately examine hidden stems, the stored phase, opening conditions and direct contacts. Property, inheritance, legal or medical questions cannot be decided by Tomb.
When two tools disagree about Tomb, compare their reference stems, target branches and forward/reverse conventions, then confirm whether each row is Star Fortune or self-sitting. The Tomb comparison is meaningful only after those inputs match.
