How to Read Nayin Generation and Overcoming: Name Both Sides and Direction
Nayin (a separate named element classification for a complete pair of chart symbols) generation and overcoming compare the pair-level phases of two complete Jiazi. The relation is directional and needs positions, natal or timing layer and a declared method. A bare Metal controls Wood slogan identifies no participants or reason for comparison.
Start with phase relations without assigning fortune
The generating cycle is Wood to Fire, Fire to Earth, Earth to Metal, Metal to Water and Water to Wood. The controlling cycle is Wood over Earth, Earth over Water, Water over Fire, Fire over Metal and Metal over Wood. These verbs describe direction, not favorable or unfavorable outcomes.

甲子 and 丙寅: why do two layers produce different verbs?
甲子 has Metal Nayin and 丙寅 Fire Nayin, so a method comparing those Nayin phases reads 丙寅 Fire controlling 甲子 Metal. Their direct stems instead read 甲 Wood generating 丙 Fire. Both statements can be correct because the participants differ.
A report must label Nayin phase or direct stem phase. Keeping only Fire controls Metal or Wood generates Fire hides the other layer.

Why must position and timing stay visible?
Year against Day, matching positions in two charts, luck against natal and year against luck answer different questions. Declare the pair first and do not switch rules after another relation looks more dramatic.
Is generating always good and overcoming always bad?
No. Even inside traditional systems, interpretation depends on method, participants, strength and other conditions. A phase verb cannot decide a real relationship, health question, job or investment.
