Wealth and Resource: conflict, restraint or joint use?

Wealth (the role family controlled by the birth-day element, often interpreted through resources and practical demands) and Resource (the role family that supports the birth-day element, often interpreted through learning and support) have a controlling relationship, but conflict and joint use describe different configurations. Conflict emphasizes interference between needed functions; joint use means that both roles have a purpose and can retain the functions the chart needs. Identify what Resource supports and what Wealth does before deciding whether their contact damages something useful or moderates an excess.

Jia’s Earth Wealth controls Water Resource

Jia Wood controls Earth, making Wu and Ji Wealth. Water generates Jia, making Ren and Gui Resource. Earth controlling Water is the basic Wealth–Resource direction. It applies across direct and indirect roles, but exact stems still matter: Wu and Gui also form a stem combination.

Conflict adds a judgment beyond the element rule: both roles participate, and their contact obstructs a needed function. Coexistence alone does not establish strength, contact or the loss of either role’s contribution.

Damaging Resource means losing a needed function

If Jia has limited support and Gui is providing it, stronger Earth controlling Gui may reduce that support. If Gui also moderates Ding Hurting Officer (a traditional role associated with independent expression and questioning rules) to protect Xin Officer (the role family that controls the birth-day element, often interpreted through rules and demands), more than one function may be affected. A claim of damaged Resource needs to identify such a loss.

Conversely, when Resource and the Day Master (the birth-day element used as the chart’s reference) side are already strong and Resource obstructs needed Output (the role family produced by the birth-day element, often interpreted through expression and activity), moderate Wealth restraint can serve another purpose. The Resource chapter of Ziping Zhenquan distinguishes using Wealth against abundant Resource from heavy Wealth meeting light Resource. Not every controlling contact is damage.

Using both means assigning distinct jobs

An Output–Wealth reading may need Wealth to receive Output while limited Day Master support calls for Resource. Both have a job, but Wealth controls Resource and Resource controls Output. The interpretation must explain how those relationships fit together; listing both roles does not establish joint use.

The Hurting Officer chapter discusses the position and relative strength of Wealth and Resource so that their functions are not obstructed. Separation can change direct contact but is not a permanent firewall: other symbols, binding and timing can alter the arrangement. Joint use is a result to explain, not an assumed benefit.

Officer mediation and companion protection act differently

For Jia, Earth Wealth → Metal Officer → Water Resource creates a possible generating bridge. Wood companions controlling Earth instead restrain Wealth that might damage Resource. One introduces mediation; the other changes Wealth’s strength. Calling both help from a benefactor leaves the mechanisms unexplained.

Officer still needs capacity and an appropriate role. More companions can also affect other uses of Wealth. If Wealth already supports a needed Officer, protecting Resource cannot be assessed while ignoring that loss. Each adjustment belongs to the same chart.

Use the imagery to understand priorities

Wealth imagery often concerns management and results; Resource imagery concerns learning and support. A modern reader might reflect on how learning and producing results fit together, and which support should be preserved. This explains the terminology without assuming that study and earning inherently conflict.

Conflict does not establish educational, employment or family failure; joint use does not promise both qualifications and wealth. A clear explanation identifies symbols, affected functions and changing conditions, leaving real-world judgments to relevant experience and evidence.
