Hong Luan and Tian Xi: Year-Branch table and marriage symbolism

Hong Luan and Tian Xi are paired traditional markers associated with celebration and marriage. In the common Year-Branch (the lower symbol in the birth-year column) lookup, Zi gives Mao for Hong Luan and You for Tian Xi. As the reference advances, both targets move backward and stay six positions apart. Calculating a target is only the first step: it still needs to occur in the chart or year being examined.

Where are the two targets for each birth Year Branch?

Use the Year Branch from the chart. For an early-year birth, establish the year-boundary convention rather than guessing from the Gregorian year. This table was checked against the backward-counting rule in Xingxue Dacheng and the table in Gujin Tushu Jicheng.

Does a Zi-year birth already contain both markers?

No. Zi supplies the two targets, Mao and You. Suppose the known Year, Month and Day branches are Zi, Chen and Yin. Neither target appears there. An unknown hour remains unknown. Only if the Hour Branch (the lower symbol in the birth-hour column) is later established as Mao can that natal position be identified as a Hong Luan match.

An annual You supplies the Tian Xi target for that year; it is different from a natal You. The two targets occupy opposite branch positions. That does not mean two auspicious markers cancel each other or signify one celebration and one disaster.

What do “Hong Luan moves” and “Tian Xi arrives” mean?

These phrases usually attach celebration imagery to a placement or period. Historical texts mention marital celebration; modern readings may discuss social participation, expressing interest or shared plans. Those are interpretive themes, not event probabilities supplied by the lookup.

Meeting, dating, deciding to share a home and holding a wedding are distinct events. Even for people already planning a wedding, the schedule comes from their decisions and circumstances. Someone without such plans need not begin a relationship to fulfill a marker.

Is this the same as Peach Blossom or Hong Luan Tian Yin?

No. Peach Blossom first groups a Year or Day Branch (the lower symbol in the birth-day column) into a triad family. This Hong Luan/Tian Xi table takes the Year Branch directly to two targets. Hong Luan Tian Yin is a separate historical pattern name; sharing characters does not make this its formula. Other divination systems also use similar star names with their own calculations.

Xingxue Dacheng belongs to a historical astrological system. The citation supports the stated Year-Branch lookup; its wider timing doctrine is not being imported as a BaZi algorithm. Clarify’s current chart engine does not calculate Hong Luan or Tian Xi. This is a reference table, not a newly added report feature.
