Shen Sha in compatibility: Peach Blossom references and cross-chart matches

Shen Sha (traditional symbolic markers calculated from specified chart relationships) compatibility adds rule-based markers such as Peach Blossom to a two-chart comparison. A marker usually starts with a reference, gives a target and then checks where that target appears. Zi, for example, points to You for Peach Blossom. You in another chart first means that the other chart contains the target, not that it exists in your natal chart (the chart calculated for the birth moment) or expresses the other person’s attraction.

What is the reference, and what is the target?

Under the Peach Blossom convention used here, a Year or Day Branch (the lower symbol in the birth-day column) matching any member of the left column gives the right-hand target. All three reference-group members need not be present. State which pillar supplies the reference rather than silently mixing them.

Hai, Mao or WeiZi

How do Zi and You Day Branches look up each other?

Take two Day-Branch fragments. Person A’s Zi gives You as the Peach Blossom target, and person B’s You matches it. Reversing the lookup, You belongs to Si–You–Chou and gives Wu. A’s Zi does not match Wu. The two directions are not symmetrical.

A’s other natal branches have not been checked, so this says neither that A has nor lacks natal Peach Blossom. A compatibility method choosing cross-chart lookup can record the one-way match. That is an additional comparison convention, not evidence that a classical source verified these people’s feelings.

How do natal, cross-chart and annual targets differ?

The same You has different meanings depending on its layer. With Zi as reference, the cases below should not all be described as natal Peach Blossom.

Target locationWhat is established
Your Month Branch is YouThe chosen reference matches your Month Pillar
The other Day Branch is YouA cross-chart target belonging to the other person
An annual branch is YouA dated target, not a rewritten birth chart

Can celebration, attraction and solitude labels be added together?

These names do not use one shared table. Hong Luan and Tian Xi commonly take the Year Branch (the lower symbol in the birth-year column) to two targets; Peach Blossom uses the four groups above; solitude markers have other conventions. Each needs its own reference and source. This page does not combine them into a destined-partner score.

Several names on one branch do not provide several observations of real interaction. An unmatched target, unknown hour or disagreement between methods belongs in the explanation. Historical judgments about gender, morality and a fate of loneliness are not a basis for labeling a person today.

What can understanding a marker add?

You can identify which traditional image the report uses, such as Peach Blossom’s modern association with attention and social contact. Then ask whether meeting, expressing interest or shared activities actually occurred. The lookup does not know who initiated contact, consented or kept an agreement.

Read these annotations after the main stem, branch and Day-Master (the birth-day element used as the chart’s reference) comparison. An auspicious marker cannot erase a real problem, and a troubling name cannot create an accusation of disloyalty or danger.
