How to Read the Twelve Life Stages in Luck and Annual Timing
Luck and annual branches can enter the Life-Stage table after a reference stem is declared. A common method keeps the natal Day Stem (the upper symbol in the birth-day column). A method using the luck or annual stem must say so because changing the reference can change the stage.
What belongs in one timed-stage record?
Save the natal reference stem, complete luck or annual Jiazi, target branch used for lookup, start and end, table version and result. A bare Emperor decade or Extinction year does not reveal which stem was measured against which branch.
| Layer | Reference | Target | Result | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Natal | 甲 | Four natal branches | Calculate separately | Fixed natal chart |
| Luck example | 甲 | 卯 | Emperor | That luck-pillar interval |
| Annual example | 甲 | 申 | Extinction | That calendrical year |
Why read direct timing symbols before the stage name?
Luck and annual stems create Ten-God roles; their branches add roots, hidden stems (the additional element symbols traditionally assigned inside each lower chart symbol) and direct contacts. Those participants meet the natal chart more directly than the favorable tone of Emperor or alarming tone of Extinction.
For a Jia Day Master (the birth-day element used as the chart’s reference) in 卯 luck, inspect the Wood root and contacts with 酉, 戌 or 亥未. In an 申 year, inspect Metal, hidden 庚壬戊 and contacts with 寅, 巳 or 亥 in addition to the Extinction label.
When does a temporary result end?
It ends at the adopted luck-transition or year boundary. Recalculate when the next luck pillar or year changes branch; natal branches and natal stages remain intact. Preserve alternatives near an uncertain boundary instead of using events to choose an answer.
Do Emperor luck and an Extinction year schedule events?
No. Emperor guarantees no promotion, profit or marriage, and Extinction predicts no dismissal, divorce, illness or death. A timing label supplies one traditional comparison; real events still require real evidence.
