What Is Cong Ge? Weak-Self, Strong-Side and Qualified Following

Cong Ge refers to methods that follow a prevailing tendency in the chart. Wealth (the role family controlled by the birth-day element, often interpreted through resources and practical demands) and Killings following commonly concern a self without effective independent support; strong-side following concerns dominance on the self/Resource (the role family that supports the birth-day element, often interpreted through learning and support)/Companion side, while Following the Child has its own conditions. Identify the method before discussing true or qualified following. One weakness score cannot define every form.

First compare ordinary weakness, true following and qualified following

The historical commentary attached to Di Tian Sui describes true following through absent support and dominant Wealth or Officer (the role family that controls the birth-day element, often interpreted through rules and demands) forces; its false-following discussion allows remaining assistance. The distinction below preserves that question without erasing a minor root or treating every trace of support identically.

ReadingConditions to explainFocus
Ordinary weakLimited support, with usable roots or Resource/peersDay Master support versus drain and control
True followingNo independent support under the stated strict method; a clear dominant tendencyHow the followed force operates
False followingAn apparent following tendency with remaining support or other qualificationsThe specific condition preventing a pure-following reading

Check hidden support before calling the Day Master rootless

These are three separate checks for Jia Wood, not a complete birth chart. They explain why the visible appearance of the branches cannot replace a hidden-stem (an additional element symbol traditionally assigned inside a lower chart symbol) lookup.

What Jia meetsHidden contentsWhat this establishes
HaiRen, JiaA Jia Wood root and a Ren Water support relationship
ChenWu, Yi, GuiSame-element Yi and Gui Water; support is not simply absent
YouXinNo Wood root in this branch; the other three remain to be checked

Name the dominant force rather than just calling it strong

For Jia, Earth is Wealth, Metal Officer/Seven Killings (a traditional role associated with challenge, pressure and decisive action) and Fire Output (the role family produced by the birth-day element, often interpreted through expression and activity). Following Wealth and following Seven Killings center on different forces and lead to different reasoning. Adding every non-Wood element together does not establish one unified tendency.

The proposed dominant force needs its own season, roots and relationships examined. Abundant Earth and Wood can conflict, as can Metal and Fire. Large counts do not establish coherence. Without four complete pillars, the partial examples here identify relationships rather than prove true following.

Why methods disagree about true and false following

Disagreements often concern residual roots, the effectiveness of Resource or peers, transformation and treatment of stem polarity (whether a symbol is classified as yin or yang). Di Tian Sui separately discusses yang following qi and yin following momentum. This does not reduce to “yang never follows” or “yin always follows.”

A clear explanation names the remaining support, why it is effective or insufficient, and the convention applied. False following should not be a substitute for uncertainty. Moral and fate judgments in the historical commentary are not evidence about modern readers; the terminology and conditional distinctions are the relevant material here.

What a following interpretation changes

An ordinary weak-chart discussion often asks how support can be supplied. A validated following approach may instead emphasize alignment with the followed force, changing how Resource or peers are interpreted. That is why the classification must be explained before applying a strategy.

Following also differs from transformation. Following concerns a dominant tendency; transformation involves a stem pairing and its specified transformation conditions. Jia–Ji combination neither automatically transforms into Earth nor automatically makes Jia follow Wealth.

Later roots or support may change a period-specific interpretation without rewriting the birth chart. This distinction helps readers check whether an annual report identifies what has changed. True following does not guarantee wealth, and false following is not a lesser grade of person.

Do all forms of following use the same threshold?

No. Weak-self following is a broad label that still needs a specific dominant force such as Wealth or Killings. Schools differ in distinguishing strong-side following by Resource, Companions and overall tendency; the name does not cover every strong chart.

Di Tian Sui’s Following the Child concerns Output continuing into Wealth and explicitly does not depend on self strength. Its account cannot inherit a universal rootless threshold. The comparison identifies different questions, with detailed criteria belonging to the chosen source.

Method familyFirst questionInsufficient shortcut
Weak-self following such as Wealth/KillingsLack of independent support and the followed side’s dominanceA low strength score
Strong-side following methodsConcentration on the self/Resource/Companion side and effective oppositionA high strength score
Following the ChildOutput continuing into Wealth under its own source accountMuch Output, then automatically applying rootless weak-following rules

Does one trace of root always determine the verdict?

First identify the criteria. Di Tian Sui’s true-following account emphasizes absent support, while its qualified-following passage discusses a weak self retaining assistance. A trace of root does not supply one universal verdict: effectiveness, restraint and the dominant tendency need explanation.

True and qualified following are technical conditions in a source, not claims about honesty or demands for personal submission. The practical chart questions concern support and the prevailing tendency, rather than a metaphor of total surrender.

Does a rootless Jia illustration establish true following?

Take synthetic Wu-Xu Year, Xin-You Month, Jia-Xu Day and Geng-Wu Hour, with standard month/hour consistency. Xu hides Wu, Xin and Ding; You hides Xin; Wu hides Ding and Ji. No visible or hidden participant supplies a Wood root or Water Resource. This illustrates missing support, but does not finish a following judgment.

Metal has You’s seasonal context and visible Xin/Geng, with Earth Wealth able to generate it. Yet Xin Officer and Geng Killings are both visible, while Fire Output inside Wu and Xu can restrain Metal. A following-Killings reading must explain whether its method permits that mixture and interference, and how the dominant direction works. Every non-Wood symbol is not one undivided force.

Extreme weakness and true following therefore remain separate. Absence of support fulfils only part of some following-weakness approaches. A method requiring purity may reject or leave this candidate unresolved; a special name does not justify deleting counterevidence.

Why can a candidate hour change the following discussion?

Keep Wu-Xu, Xin-You and Jia-Xu as the first three pillars, but consider Yi-Hai as a different candidate for an unknown hour. It is consistent with Jia’s hour-stem (the upper symbol in the birth-hour column) rule. Yi is Rob Wealth (a traditional role associated with shared resources, cooperation and competition); Hai contains Ren Resource and a Jia root. That support is absent from the Geng-Wu candidate; the two hours cannot be combined into one chart.

A method requiring no usable roots or Resource must reassess Yi-Hai. But one added root does not automatically establish false following. Explain its effectiveness, the remaining dominant flow and the author’s boundary between qualified following and ordinary weakness. This tests input sensitivity rather than selecting a true hour from a known story.
