Seven Killings Pattern (Qi Sha): Meaning, Control and Resource Flow
The Seven Killings Pattern begins with a month-led Qi Sha relation: a same-polarity force controlling the Day Master. Challenge and pressure are traditional metaphors. The useful question is how that force is restrained or redirected; “Killings” is not a prediction of harm.
Why is Seven Killings also called Indirect Officer?
Geng Metal controls Jia Wood and both are Yang, giving Seven Killings, also called Indirect Officer. Some classical passages reserve Indirect Officer for a controlled form; modern Ten God (one of ten traditional relationship labels defined relative to the birth-day element) tables often use both names for the same relation. The naming convention should be explained.
One useful reflective question is whether demanding situations come with methods, resources and support, or simply require endurance. Experience answers that question. The pattern alone establishes neither courage nor a dangerous temperament.
Which stem is Seven Killings for each Day Master?
Find the Day Master, then its corresponding stem. This identifies Seven Killings; a pattern also needs a month basis, hidden-stem (an additional element symbol traditionally assigned inside a lower chart symbol) selection, exposure and wider support. A branch may contain several hidden stems with different roles.
| Day Master | Seven Killings | Target phase |
|---|---|---|
| Jia 甲 | Geng 庚 | Metal |
| Yi 乙 | Xin 辛 | Metal |
| Bing 丙 | Ren 壬 | Water |
| Ding 丁 | Gui 癸 | Water |
| Wu 戊 | Jia 甲 | Wood |
| Ji 己 | Yi 乙 | Wood |
| Geng 庚 | Bing 丙 | Fire |
| Xin 辛 | Ding 丁 | Fire |
| Ren 壬 | Wu 戊 | Earth |
| Gui 癸 | Ji 己 | Earth |
Jia in Shen: identify the candidate before judging its use
Shen 申 has Geng 庚 as its main stem, with Ren 壬 and Wu 戊 also hidden. For Jia, these are Seven Killings, Indirect Resource (a traditional role associated with specialized learning and unconventional insight) and Indirect Wealth (a traditional role associated with opportunities, exchange and wider connections). Selecting Geng as month qi creates a candidate; exposure, Jia’s roots and the roles of Ren and Wu still need examination.
Jia born in Mao 卯 with Geng in the Year Stem (the upper symbol in the birth-year column) has a Seven Killings role in the year. That does not bypass the month’s structure. Choosing the most alarming word is not pattern selection.
How do control and Resource flow differ?
Jia’s Eating God (a traditional role associated with creativity, expression and enjoyment) is Bing Fire, which controls Geng Metal: direct restraint of Seven Killings. Geng can instead generate Ren or Gui Water Resource (the role family that supports the birth-day element, often interpreted through learning and support), which generates Jia: pressure redirected through a supporting intermediary.
Bing needs suitable strength; excessive restraint of an already weak Geng is not an improvement. Strong Water Resource can also suppress Bing, obstructing the control route. Having both Food and Resource does not automatically double the benefit.
Does more Wealth or more control make it better?
Jia’s Wealth (the role family controlled by the birth-day element, often interpreted through resources and practical demands) is Wu or Ji Earth, which generates Geng. That may replenish a weak force when the Day Master can carry it, or intensify an existing imbalance when support is inadequate. Checking Wealth does not mean adding it unconditionally.
The value of this pattern explanation lies in understanding what control and redirection each address, and whether the proportions fit. It assigns no occupation and establishes no violence, trauma, illness or shortened life.
Place Killings, control and roots in one illustration
Use synthetic Geng-Shen Year, Jia-Shen Month, Jia-Yin Day and Bing-Yin Hour, with consistent month/hour pairings. Shen contains Geng, Ren and Wu, with Geng primary: Killings, Indirect Resource and Indirect Wealth for Jia. Geng’s exposure in the Year Stem explains the monthly Killings candidate.
Jia has roots in both Yin branches. Bing Eating God is visible in the Hour Stem (the upper symbol in the birth-hour column) and hidden inside Yin, supporting examination of Bing controlling Geng. Ren inside Shen offers the different Killings-to-Resource-to-self direction, but remains hidden. Neither route is automatically complete merely because its components can be named.
Yin and Shen clash, so these positions and roots interact. Explain the impact on roots and the controlling influence rather than erase every Yin root on sight. No Xin Officer (the role family that controls the birth-day element, often interpreted through rules and demands) appears here; repeated Geng does not create an Officer/Killings mixture. Usability still needs conditions, and the name establishes no danger, military occupation or achievement.
