Jian Lu Pattern: Ten-Stem Lu Table, Meaning and Useful Directions
Jian Lu begins traditionally when the Day Master’s Lu position is its Month Branch. Lu corresponds to Official stage in the commonly used Life-Stage table and gives a basis for rootedness. The name promises neither pay nor office, and does not select every useful influence.
Are Jian Lu, a Lu marker and Official stage the same?
They share a common position table but answer different questions. A Lu marker can occur in several pillars; Official is a stage for a specified stem–branch comparison; Jian Lu Pattern places Lu in a month-based interpretation.
Jia meeting Yin gives a Lu position. Jia as Day Master in a Yin month supplies the month basis. Yin only in the hour, with You as month, can be a root or marker without replacing the You month.
Which Month Branch is Lu for each of the ten stems?
These are solar-term (one of 24 seasonal markers defined by the Sun’s position along its yearly path) Month Branches, not lunar month numbers or complete Gregorian months. The common table shares Si for Bing/Wu and Wu for Ding/Ji. Earth stems require the selection distinction explained below.
| Day Master | Lu Month Branch | Common Life Stage |
|---|---|---|
| Jia 甲 | 寅 | Official / Lin Guan |
| Yi 乙 | 卯 | Official / Lin Guan |
| Bing 丙 | 巳 | Official / Lin Guan |
| Ding 丁 | 午 | Official / Lin Guan |
| Wu 戊 | 巳 | Official / Lin Guan |
| Ji 己 | 午 | Official / Lin Guan |
| Geng 庚 | 申 | Official / Lin Guan |
| Xin 辛 | 酉 | Official / Lin Guan |
| Ren 壬 | 亥 | Official / Lin Guan |
| Gui 癸 | 子 | Official / Lin Guan |
Does a Lu month always mean main-qi Peer selection?
Jia in Yin is straightforward: Yin’s main Jia is Peer (a traditional role associated with independence and relationships among equals) for Jia. But Wu Earth has Lu in Si, whose main Bing is Indirect Resource (a traditional role associated with specialized learning and unconventional insight) for Wu. Ji Earth has Lu in Wu, whose main Ding is Indirect Resource for Ji. Earth’s shared Lu positions do not mean main-qi Peer in every case.
A traditional Lu-position starting point and a method selecting Resource (the role family that supports the birth-day element, often interpreted through learning and support) or another pattern from effective month qi and exposed stems are separate steps. When reports differ, check whether the label follows position or selected month qi.
Why examine Wealth, Officer and Output after establishing roots?
For Jia in Yin, rootedness does not show where force goes. Fire Output can receive Wood, Earth Wealth can receive Fire, and Metal Officer can restrain Wood. Each is a candidate route requiring actual participants.
Resource generates the self, but a heavily supported chart does not automatically need more Resource. Contacts affecting roots, climate and interrupted routes can change selection. Jian Lu should lead from footing to circulation, not simply repeat “strong.”
Does Jian Lu mean self-reliance or no inherited resources?
Classical texts contain claims about property and relatives, but a Lu lookup cannot establish family circumstances. Support, income and independence depend on experience and conditions; a Month Branch is not a biography.
The immediate value is being able to verify Lu, separate month placement from other pillars and understand why a reading moves on to Wealth, Officer and Output. Those relations require explanation; the name is not the final answer.
After locating Jia’s Lu in Yin month, what comes next?
Take synthetic Wu-Chen Year, Jia-Yin Month, Jia-Zi Day and Geng-Wu Hour, with consistent pairings. Jia’s Lu is Yin, actually in the Month Branch, and Month Jia is Peer. This is the precise Jian Lu entry, rather than a Lu marker somewhere else.
Year Wu Indirect Wealth (a traditional role associated with opportunities, exchange and wider connections) and Hour Geng Killings raise different capacity and restraint questions, with Gui Resource in Zi supplying support. Geng lacks Shen/You Metal roots, while Ding inside Wu can restrain Metal; visible Geng alone does not establish adequate control. Wu generating Geng is another route to preserve.
Yin and Wu are only two members of the Fire trine; Xu is absent. Bing inside Yin and Ding inside Wu are output clues, not permission to add Xu and declare a complete group. A useful Jian Lu reading continues through these relationships instead of assigning independence or career success.
