The same Ten God in different pillars: why the name stays but the reading changes
A Ten God does not change its name merely by moving between pillars. With Jia Wood as Day Master, Gui Water is Direct Resource in the year stem, month stem, hour stem or hidden stems. What differs is surrounding support, seasonal conditions, connections with other symbols and the palace theme used by the report.
What determines the Ten God name?
Elemental direction and polarity (whether a symbol is classified as yin or yang) determine the classification. Gui Water generates Jia Wood with different polarity, making Direct Resource. Gui generates Yi Wood with the same polarity, making Indirect Resource (a traditional role associated with specialized learning and unconventional insight). Here the name changes because the Day Master changes, not because Gui is moved to a new column.
Use the same Day Master throughout one chart. Switching to the year stem as reference for one paragraph and back to the day stem (the upper symbol in the birth-day column) for another would mix different classifications without explaining the change.
How does position change the question being discussed?
These are possible thematic uses of the same Resource (the role family that supports the birth-day element, often interpreted through learning and support) relationship, not a reading of a particular chart. Each position still needs its actual accompanying symbols considered.
| Where Gui occurs | With Jia as Day Master | Possible theme |
|---|---|---|
| Year stem | Direct Resource | Support in one’s background |
| Month stem | Direct Resource | Learning or support in formative and social surroundings |
| Hour stem | Direct Resource | Learning, help and accumulation in later development |
| A hidden stem in the day branch | Direct Resource | Support within the sitting branch, not a second Day Master |
Why does the same name not mean the same strength?
One Gui may sit on a Water-containing branch, while another is near Earth restraint. Both also belong to the same birth season, so their conditions cannot be reduced to two isolated scores.
Visible versus hidden is not a direct strength ranking either. A hidden occurrence may have seasonal and root support, while a visible stem may lack support.
Do repeated Resource or Wealth stars count relatives or marriages?
No. A Ten God count records symbolic relationships, not people. Repetition gives several positions to compare; it does not count family members or events.
When encountering such a claim, check whether it simply substitutes a real person for a star name. A fuller reading preserves the difference between role and position, while actual family structure comes from real information.
How can I follow these differences in a report?
Find the actual visible or hidden stem, confirm its Day Master and Ten God, then look for why the position is emphasized. “Resource is good in the hour and bad in the year” has not explained anything without conditions such as season, roots and interactions.
A clear paragraph can establish the shared name first and then explain differences in support and theme. The reader need not imagine that a Ten God acquires a different definition at a new age.
