BAZI KNOWLEDGE BASE

BaZi and Zi Wei Dou Shu: Four Pillars, twelve palaces and stars

BaZi starts with four stem–branch pairs and interprets the Day Master (the birth-day element used as the chart’s reference), elements and Ten Gods (traditional labels for relationships to the birth-day element). Zi Wei Dou Shu arranges rule-derived stars in twelve palaces and interprets their relationships. Both are traditional systems, but they are not the same chart drawn differently, and a Ten God cannot be substituted for a Zi Wei star.

Start with the chart’s organization

BaZi centers on year, month, day and hour pillars. Zi Wei commonly uses twelve palaces including Life, Siblings, Spouse, Children and Wealth (the role family controlled by the birth-day element, often interpreted through resources and practical demands). The palace names organize themes; they cannot be fitted in order into four pillars (the chart’s four birth-time columns: year, month, day and hour).

Are its stars the same as BaZi gods?

Zi Wei, Tian Fu, Sun and Moon name stars placed through Zi Wei’s rules. Direct Resource, Eating God and Seven Killings in BaZi name relationships between the Day Master and other stems.

Both systems may use Seven Killings, but a Zi Wei star and a BaZi relationship are derived differently. A shared name does not make their rules interchangeable.

Why does birth time matter in both?

In BaZi it affects the hour pillar (the two-symbol column for the birth hour). Zi Wei uses birth information including month, day and hour in palace and star placement. Lunar conversion, leap-month treatment and school conventions need to be stated for the relevant system.

Missing information in one chart cannot be filled automatically from a description in the other. Keeping an uncertain time uncertain makes its effect on the interpretation visible.

What does agreement or disagreement mean?

Agreement may provide a shared theme to reflect on; disagreement may prompt a check of methods and examples. Similar statements from two traditions are not two independent validations.

If one report describes sociability and another reserve, ask which situations each concerns. Return to observable behavior and retain both fitting and conflicting examples rather than forcing a winner.
