Yin–Yang balance in BaZi: is a four-and-four chart better?

Yin–Yang balance in BaZi does not require four Yin and four Yang characters. Polarity (whether a symbol is classified as yin or yang) counts classify symbols; interpretation also considers season, elements and relationships. An even count does not establish an ideal chart, and an uneven count does not establish a personal defect.

What is included in the count?

Jia, Bing, Wu, Geng and Ren are Yang stems; Yi, Ding, Ji, Xin and Gui are Yin. Branch polarity alternates from Yang Zi to Yin Chou. A count of the eight visible characters does not also count every hidden stem (an additional element symbol traditionally assigned inside a lower chart symbol).

Some displays count only the four stems, while others include branches. Different proportions may come from different denominators. Establish the scope before comparing results.

Does more Yin mean cold and more Yang mean hot?

Symbol polarity and chart climate are different dimensions. Zi is a Yang branch associated with Water and winter imagery; Si is a Yin branch associated with Fire and summer imagery. More Yang symbols alone cannot establish a hot chart.

Traditional cold, warmth, dryness and moisture assessments consider month and elemental relationships. They do not measure body temperature or health. Climate adjustment is a separate interpretive question.

Can the proportion describe my personality?

Yin and Yang can supply imagery of inward development and outward expression. People change their approach with tasks, environments and experience. Counts cannot determine confidence, sociability or leadership ability.

More useful observations concern when expression is clear, when listening helps and which arrangements support both. These questions do not require changing a birth chart.

Do all-Yin or all-Yang labels need a remedy?

First establish whether the label refers to stems alone or all eight visible characters. Different users may count different things. The label cannot establish loneliness, relationship difficulties or lifespan.

An equal split is not proof of perfection either. If a label alone is used to recommend a purchase or major life change, an explanation of the actual conditions and real problem is still missing.
