Does abundant Resource always make a strong Day Master?
Resource (the role family that supports the birth-day element, often interpreted through learning and support) is the element that generates the Day Master (the birth-day element used as the chart’s reference), but many Resource symbols do not automatically make a strong Day Master. Quantity, the strength of Resource itself, and the Day Master’s own roots are separate questions. If a report calls your chart Fake Strong or Resource-abundant and rootless, the useful explanation identifies its support and the roots checked. The label does not assess your ability or your family.
Four labels that answer different questions
Many Resource symbols describes a count. Strong Resource additionally concerns its seasonal position, roots and other relationships. Rootless asks whether the Day Master’s own element occurs inside the branches. These conditions can coexist, but none is interchangeable with another.
In this usage, Fake Strong warns that visible assistance and an overall strength assessment may differ. It is not a separate pattern established by one universal score, and it does not automatically mean a following pattern. The definition used in the report matters.
One branch may contain both Resource and a root
These are separate comparisons between a Day Master and one branch, not a complete birth chart. The lookup counts a hidden stem (an additional element symbol traditionally assigned inside a lower chart symbol) of the same element as a potential root without treating all roots as equally strong.

No principal-qi root is not the same as no root
A Wood-root list limited to Yin and Mao misses Yi in Chen and Wei, and Jia in Hai. A Metal list limited to Shen and You misses Geng in Si and Xin in Chou and Xu. Less prominent roots still need recording before their contribution is assessed.
Likewise, abundant Fire does not by itself make an Earth Day Master rootless: Si contains Wu Earth and Wu branch contains Ji Earth. Whether that support is sufficient is a later question. With an unknown birth hour, no root found in three known branches is not a completed four-branch check.
What the historical mother-child metaphor refers to
In this passage of Di Tian Sui Chan Wei, mother and child refer to generating and generated elements. Ren’s commentary distinguishes effective Wealth (the role family controlled by the birth-day element, often interpreted through resources and practical demands) restraining Resource from weak Wealth and assistance to the Day Master. It does not prescribe controlling Resource in every Resource-heavy case.
The chapter’s Xin Metal examples involving Chou and Xu still contain hidden Xin under the usual table. Comparing those contents shows why the metaphor is not synonymous with strictly having no roots. This comparison is an editorial inference from the examples, not a universal rootlessness formula stated by the text.
Controlling Resource and producing Output are different routes
For Jia Wood, Water is Resource, Earth is Wealth and Fire is Output (the role family produced by the birth-day element, often interpreted through expression and activity). Earth controlling Water describes Wealth restraining Resource; Wood generating Fire describes the Day Master producing Output. They act on different elements. Fire does not directly control Water in this cycle, so boiling away Resource cannot serve as a universal control rule.
Identifying a relationship does not yet select a useful element. The states and positions of the Day Master, Resource, Wealth and Output still matter. Restraining needed Resource differs from restraining excess Resource; adding Wealth is not an instruction to spend money, start a business or change careers.
What to take from this part of a report
A useful explanation identifies where Resource appears, why it is considered strong, which branches do or do not contain roots, and what could change the assessment. A personality sketch about thinking too much and acting too little leaves those chart relationships unexplained.
The mother metaphor does not establish parental interference, and Fake Strong does not establish dependence. Your actual support, responsibilities and choices provide the context for understanding your situation. You do not need to refuse help or change family relationships to fit a chart label.
